Development and broader application of the ion exchange methods proved possible when modern organic and inorganic ion-exchangers of suitably chosen physicochemical properties were produced and used. Of many well known ion exchangers only a few types are produced on the commercial scale now. There are selective ion exchangers of various type with the following functional groups: iminodiacetate, amidoxime, phosphonic, aminophosphonic and mercaptide. Besides, the selectivity increase of the ion exchangers towards to metal ions can be obtained as a result of used proper selective chelating agents. Based on the literature date it can be noted that the complexing reactions are one from the most important factors affecting the ion exchange selectivity especially in the case of anion exchange processes. As a result the new method of obtaining of selective ion exchangers was developed. It relied on the modification of strong base anion exchangers by means of organic sulpho-derivative complexing reagents.
In the present work the strong base anion exchangers modified by means of various types of organic sulpho-derivative chelating reagents were used for selective removal copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), manganese(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II) and iron(III) ions from aqueous solutions. The extraction coefficients (%R) depending on the type of modified ion exchanger and phase contact time were determined for the above mentioned metal ions. Besides the examples of the selective separations of some metal ions in the micro – macrocomponent systems were given. The percentage of copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), manganese(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II) and iron(III) was determined by means of Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (FAAS).
