Both nickel(II) and cobalt(II) are commonly used in many branches of the industry, so they are present in the sewages produced during the industrial processes. Due to their toxicity there is a necessity to remove them from the wastewaters for example by ion exchange resins.
Because of the reasons mentioned above, the strong and weak anion exchangers (Amberlite IRA 958, Amberlite IRA 458 and Amberlite IRA 68) were investigated for their sorption properties towards nickel(II) and cobalt(II) ions. The studies were carried out by means of extraction from the aminopolycarboxylic acid solutions. Different compositions of the aqueous phase and different temperatures were examined. Besides the experiments were carried out as a function of pH and time. The percentage of nickel(II) and cobalt(II) ions was determined by means of Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS).
