Processes of purifying and sorting of whisker’s (W) SiC, manufacture of porous isotropic materials and deriving of homogeneous mixtures W SiC with ceramic powders are taking place in fluid mediums. In this connection the behaviour of crystals is determined by properties of their surface. Therefore in this research the electrosurface characteristics of W and fibres of silicon carbide in water solutions are investigated.

Object of examination - W SiC and fibers manufactured in Russia and Japan. The specific surface area of W SiC is equal to 4 – 90 m2 g-1 and length-to-diameter ratio - not less than 250.

Methods of research - sedimentation measurement, potentiometric acid-base titration of a surface, mass titration, adsorptive measurement, electron microscopy.

Behaviour of W and fibres SiC with different type of surface was studied.

Depending on the type of surface SiC the point of a zero charge (PZC) of the explored W and fibres is around pH = 2,7-3 or pH = 6,4-6,9. Thus a series of acid-base impurities with equi -adsorption point (EAP) is noted at pH= 5; 5,95; 8,05 and 8,5.

After careful clearing of a surface of W and fibres SiC their surface remains tessellated (two and more of EAP), that is connected to a plenty of naturally alternating twinning planes in SiC.

After etching of a polytype 3C, containing impurities of Fe, on the curves of titration is noted only PZC SiC at pH = 6,4-6,8.
